Penny War - Sponsored by the Builders Club

The Annual St. John Builders Club Penny War to benefit the school children of Citlaltepec, Mexico was held December 2nd - December 10th.

Staff and students in grades PK-8 had a chance to bring their pennies and silver coins to school and compete against other grades in the Penny War. Each grade had a jar in the office in which students deposited the donated money. Pennies and paper money counted toward the grade’s total amount and silver coins deducted from it. The grades with the highest daily and overall totals won prizes.

Proceeds from the Penny War are used to purchase much needed school supplies and give children in Citlaltepec the ability to better their education. We are connected to Citlaltepec through Mrs. Leticia Santiago, our Spanish teacher, as it is her hometown and also because Citlaltepec is Little Chute’s sister city.

Builders Club members, under the supervision of Mrs. Storck, are responsible for organizing the Penny War each year by advertising, collecting jars, bagging the money daily, coordinating prizes, and adding up money totals. We look forward to extending our service to areas outside of our school community. Thanks to everyone who donated to this years Penny War making it another huge success.
