Catholic Education Week

Catholic Education Week was held the last week in January. The theme this year was “Celebrate Service.” Each day the students were able to celebrate their faith a little bit differently than they do everyday. All of the activities that were planned for the week involved the students, staff, parents, and even the community.

Monday when the students arrived at school, they headed down to the gym for a Prayer Chain. They started off the morning by having a shouting match “We love Jesus, yes we do! We love Jesus, how about you?” and ended by holding hands in a chain and saying The Lord’s Prayer.

Tuesday was “Dress up” day and 16 Middle School students attended the Prince of Peace Mass in Green Bay which was officiated by Bishop David Ricken. That evening the Home and School Association held a Pizza and Ice Cream Social during parent-teacher conferences. There were games for the kids, free babysitting, and plenty of pizza to go around.

School Spirit Day was held on Wednesday with students dressing in school colors and St. John apparel and heading over to Sabre Lanes for a few hours of bowling sponsored by Home and School. There was a lot of excitement and even a couple of strikes!

Thursday was another eventful day. The older students buddied up with the younger students and had partner reading. When they finished reading, the students then wrote a letter to their parents thanking them for the opportunity to attend St. John School to get a Catholic education. Later that afternoon Xavier High School’s Principal, Matt Reynebeau, baked an enormous batch of his famous chocolate chip cookies to celebrate Catholic Education Week. They were delicious!

Friday rounded out the week with an all-school mass at 8:00 a.m. The students were able to show off all of their service so far in the 2008-2009 school year with a colorful procession into mass in which the students wore their class colors. At noon, it was time for the annual Pep Rally for God where the students celebrated their faith with song and dance. This year’s Pep Rally was said to be the best one yet! Outstanding Job Students!

To make Catholic Education Week a little more special, St. John High School Alumni (1937-1952) members were asked to visit St. John School on Friday for the mass, followed by a social, and ending with the Pep Rally for God. It was a treat to have them and we are looking forward to our next Alumni Event!

Thank you to everyone who helped make Catholic Education week special! A BIG Thank you to the SJS students’ parents for making the sacrifice to send your child/children to St. John School. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to celebrate our FAITH EVERYDAY!
