The term $crip means substitute money. $crip as we know it is a gift certificate from participating merchants. There are two kinds of $crip, National $crip and Local $crip.
The $crip Centers buy millions of dollars of gift certificates in large volume increments from grocery, drug and retail outlets throughout the United States. The $crip Centers pay cash up front and receives a discount based on the amount of purchase and the type of business. St. John then purchases these discounted certificates, and in turn, sells them at full face value.
Local $crip is manufactured by St. John and sold at face value and may be used at any local businesses participating in the St John $crip Program. St. John is then billed by the local business at a discount. The amount of discount (which is different for each business) is the profit.
